In Antigua, West Indies defeated Bangladesh by 201 runs to win their first Test at home in two and a half years. On the fifth morning, Alzarri Joseph hit No. 11 Shoriful Islam on the back of his shoulder, and the visitors’ chase of 334 was ended at 132 for 9. The game ended when Shoriful retired injured after the Bangladeshi physiotherapist refused to let him to finish his innings. On Tuesday, the hosts finished in seven overs. Jaker Ali was lbw for 31 after Alzarri dismissed Hasan Mahmud for a duck when he was caught behind an away-going delivery.

Jaker’s stay of 58 balls included four boundaries. The West Indies fielders alternated sledging the Bangladesh tailenders, but Alzarri persisted in slapping Taskin Ahmed and Shoriful Islam with bouncers. It’s probable that Bangladesh chose not to go with their second dig after declaring themselves 181 runs behind the West Indies in the first innings out of concern that their lower-order hitters might be hurt by the onslaught of short balls.

Their specialized batsmen put up very little resistance as they began their pursuit on the fourth day, but the Bangladeshi tail, as was to be expected, crumbled soon on the fifth morning. Kemar Roach got Zakir out off the inside edge, much like Zakir had been knocked out in the first innings, and both Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Zakir Hasan perished in the first four overs. Mahmudul followed suit, edging to the slips after pursuing a little wide pitch and getting out just like he had in the previous innings.

Then, as he attempted to move out of the path of the large inswinger, Roach kissed his gloves and eliminated Shahadat Hossain with a pitch that sliced through the batter. Roach got his third wicket after a return catch from Mominul Haque, who had escaped two missed catches from Shamar Joseph. Shamar had Litton Das caught at fine leg after suffering two more missed catches from his bowling. Despite his struggles against the short ball, captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz persisted, scoring 45. Joshua Da Silva made a fantastic catch after Jayden Seales caught him behind.

After cleaning up Taijul Islam, Seales halted play on the fourth evening due to poor lighting. However, the Test was set up by the West Indies’ hitters, as the hosts declared at 450 for 9 in the opening inning. During a patient 140-run eighth-wicket partnership with Roach, who achieved his best Test score of 47, Justin Greaves earned his first century. On the second morning, they saved the West Indies from 261 for 7.

Following the addition of 140 runs for the fourth wicket by Mikyle Louis and Alick Athanaze, who were dismissed in the nineties on the first day, Bangladesh had made some progress. Although they didn’t have a significant partnership or a significant individual knock, Bangladesh responded with a similar level of caution. Litton scored 40 and Mominul and Jaker made half-centuries. The visitors were able to escape the follow-on thanks to Jaker and Taijul’s 68-run seventh-wicket partnership.

Despite being 181 runs down, they shocked the West Indies on the fourth morning by declaring on 269 for 9. After that, Taskin dominated the West Indies lineup, recording his first five-for in Test matches and career-best figures of 6 for 64. Although Bangladesh’s bowlers gave promise by dismissing the West Indies for 152, their hitters’ struggles from the previous year persisted in this Test.
