On the shortened first day of the Kingston Test, Kemar Roach stunned Bangladesh early on, but the host team was unable to claim a few more wickets due to West Indies’ subpar catching. Shadman Islam and Shahadat Hossain were undefeated at 50 and 12, respectively, as Bangladesh finished at 69 for 2. If the West Indies fielders hadn’t lost three catches in quick succession, it may have been much worse. Because to the wet outfield at Sabina Park, the game started at 3 p.m. local time, five hours after it was supposed to start.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz, the captain of Bangladesh, had to bat first on a sunny day with only 30 overs available due to the delayed start. However, early in the opening half hour, the visitors lost two wickets. With a brilliant diving catch by wicketkeeper Joshua Da Silva, Mahmudul Hasan Joy was the first player out after being caught behind for two. After that, Roach left and took the edge after dismissing Mominul Haque with a delivery that swung into the left-hander from around the wicket.
Roach took his 50th wicket against Bangladesh, and it was Mominul’s fourth duck in the West Indies. Although Bangladesh’s hitters appeared to be easy pickings, the West Indies players’ fielding failed to support their fast bowlers. On 15, Shadman was dropped by Alick Athanaze as he drove beyond the first slip but was unable to cling onto the opportunity. Shadman was subsequently dumped on 35 at cover by Captain Kraigg Brathwaite. After Jayden Seales drew Shahadat’s edge with the batter on eight, there was the hilarious drop.
At first slip, the ball exploded out of Athanaze’s grasp and headed toward Kavem Hodge, who spilled the rebound, which slipped from Athanaze’s grasp as he attempted to retrieve it. The run flow was also hindered by the slow outfield following the rain. During his stay of 100 balls, Shadman hit three fours and a six. Shahadat crossed a line. However, a lot of their powerful shots were halted close to the boundary rope. However, after a bad start, Bangladesh would not mind how this batting duo persevered for a few hours.
