On the last night of the trip, India gave Bangladesh one last thrashing, but this one will live in history. Three runs short of 300, the second-highest T20 score; a brilliant forty-ball century from Sanju Samson; the strength and inventiveness of Suryakumar Yadav; and finally, the finish from the formidable lower middle order. Bangladesh saw no relief as they amassed the most number of boundary runs in a T20 innings with 22 sixes (tied for highest for a Test-playing team) and 25 fours.
A record 18 overs yielded ten runs or more, one of which had five sixes, and three bowlers gave up fifty or more. A catch went bad, a run-out was missed, and two of the twenty-six dot balls turned out to be no-balls. Bangladesh had no idea that the first ball bouncer that Tanzim Hasan used to get Abhishek Sharma out would be their last moment of happiness for the evening. In the second over, Samson had already disrupted Taskin Ahmed’s lines by reversing course and blasting four straight fours. Suryakumar, the new hitter, took just one ball to score his first six.
Samson was not going to be abandoned. With a six and a four, he withdrew and defeated Mustafizur Rahman as well. Then, Suryakumar finished the powerplay with a few of strokes that are normally considered bold for him, pulling balls deep behind square when most batsmen would be content to go just behind. With their last over midwicket, India achieved their joint-highest powerplay score of 82. The most remarkable strokes came from Samson, but Suryakumar had a sliced six over backward point that he had no right throwing there.
While some of his eight sixes were bold, they lacked muscle. He had an impressive 81% control percentage with a strike rate of 236.17. The most amazing of Samson’s sixes came when he nearly trodden on the stumps to shorten a slower ball from Mustafizur and then sent it over extra cover with his back foot. Rishad Hossain, a legspinner, was recently shot after hitting 55 in the previous game. He was letting Samson hit him for sixes down the ground without using his feet in his second over, but he was erring in length and began the opening over with a short ball.
His lengths were very long, but the pitch also had a significant role. For Samson, whose potential in international T20 cricket had not yet translated into statistics, the innings was a cherry on top. It was evident in his ostentatious celebrations upon becoming India’s second-fastest person to reach both the fifty and the hundred. In the 173-run second-wicket partnership, Suryakumar had to settle with being the supporting act for once. When you end a relationship this long, you usually expect some relief, but Riyan Parag and Hardik Pandya had different plans.
It took Parag and Pandya three balls to reach their respective boundaries. Together, they struck four sixes to score 81 off just 31 balls. When Pandya made his off Tanzim even larger, he was able to outdo Samson’s back-foot six over more cover. Once more, it was a nice, slower, short ball with no space, but it still flew over more cover. India was kept from reaching 300 by two wickets in the last over, but that did nothing to ease Bangladesh’s concerns. For Bangladesh, things might still get worse. And they did.
Mayank Yadav started the chase with a brute of a bouncer for Parvez Hossain’s golden duck. Mahmudullah’s final T20 international appearance came at 8 off 9 with a 2-0-26-1 bowling average. In his first game of the series, Ravi Bishnoi displayed the wealth of Indian spin with three wickets. Despite being Bangladesh’s largest loss in terms of runs, Towhid Hridoy’s half-century, with a strike rate of 150 with three fours and five sixes, did manage to stop the heaviest T20I loss by a Test-playing side.

In IPL 2024, the match was won by the three teams that scored 200 runs or more while batting first at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. On Saturday, rain is predicted in Hyderabad, though. Jaker Ali could be replaced by Mahedi Hasan from Bangladesh. In the first two Twenty20 Internationals, Ravi Bishnoi, Tilak Verma, Jitesh Sharma, and Harshit Rana warmed the bench; but, with the series already settled, they could score in Hyderabad. Nitish Kumar Reddy has seamlessly integrated into India’s offensive batting lineup.
He hit seven sixes in his 34-ball 74 during the second Twenty20 International in Delhi, following his team’s collapse to 41 for 3 in the sixth over. Even though Rinku was a powerful player, he mostly took a backseat to Reddy during their collaboration. Reddy can rotate strikes and has a wide variety of shots at his disposal. In the long term, India will be just as keen in seeing how he refines his medium-pace bowling. Mahmudullah will play his final Twenty20 international match for Bangladesh, while Reddy is just getting started.
Prior to the Delhi match, the 140-game veteran declared his retirement from the format. It was hardly shocking, considering Mahmudullah’s advanced age and recent decline in condition. Even though he led Bangladesh in scoring with 41 in Delhi, it was just another instance of fighting fire with fire rather than going after the opponent. Mahmudullah’s departure from the Bangladesh T20I team will be announced in Hyderabad, but there will be a lengthy discussion over his replacement beforehand.
India will be eager to extend their domination over Bangladesh by taking their T20I form from Gwalior and Delhi to Hyderabad in the third T20I after winning the Test series 2-0. This is the last game of a trip when Bangladesh has bowled brilliantly only at times and batting horribly overall. That was insufficient since India showed off their improved T20 abilities. Despite losing three wickets in the powerplay, the host team scored their highest total against Bangladesh in the second Twenty20 International.
Before Hardik Pandya and Riyan Parag delivered devastating blows at the end, Nitish Kumar Reddy and Rinku Singh put up 108 runs for the fourth wicket. A goal of 222 was too much for the guests, who could only muster 135 for 9. After playing without a change in the first two matches, India can now decide to test the remainder of the team. Bangladesh’s seamen’s good performance in the series thus far has been their only consolation. In Delhi, Taskin Ahmed took 2 for 16, Mustafizur Rahman was as cunning as always, while Tanzim Hasan Sakib demonstrated his developing abilities.
However, the spinners failed them down, unable to locate their proper lengths. Bangladesh has also not had the greatest of beginnings with their top order. While skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto looked brilliant in portions before giving in fast, Litton Das and rookie Parvez Hossain Emon bowled too hard and didn’t get the required outcomes. For the visitors to have a last opportunity to at least pose a danger to the hosts on this tour, top order and spinners need to pull together.
