Watch cricket video highlights between Bangladesh vs Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe tour of Bangladesh 2024 fourth twenty/20 International match, played at Dhaka.
Once more, Zimbabwe came dangerously near to Bangladesh’s total but was unable to complete the task. Bangladesh defeated them by five runs this time around in Dhaka, increasing their advantage in the T20I series to 4-0. Depending on which side you were rooting for, the final two performers, Wellington Masakadza and Blessing Muzarabani, had everyone both frightened and ecstatic with their major hits in the end. When 13 runs were needed, Muzarabani hit him for a straight six before Shakib Al Hasan claimed the final two wickets in the final over. For his first T20I in 10 months, Shakib completed with a 4 for 35 score.
Returning to the team, Mustafizur Rahman claimed three wickets, Taskin Ahmed two, and Rishad Hossain one. Zimbabwe received a huge lifeline from Bangladesh when they were bowled out for 143 after collapsing from 101 for no loss. The hosts were unable to survive all 20 overs as the final 10 wickets fell in 8.4 overs. Luke Jongwe, who took 3 for 20, spearheaded the visitors’ comeback with the ball. He overcame Tendai Chatara to become Zimbabwe’s best wicket-taker in Twenty20 Internationals after taking his third wicket to reach 64 in the format. Tanzid Hasan and Soumya Sarkar, though, held the home team ahead before all that.
In the powerplay, Tanzid practically single-handedly went for the bowler. With seven fours in his 40 from 27 balls, he left Soumya with little work to do on the other end. During the powerplay, Soumya faced just nine balls; in the next two overs, he opened up. In the eighth over, he reverse swiped Brian Bennett before lofting Jongwe over the covers. Tanzid kept up his impressive form in his first series, reaching his second fifty of the series with a single off Faraz Akram at the end of the ninth over. Tanzid and Soumya, the third opening duo from Bangladesh to achieve the century mark in T20Is, did so shortly after. The openers’ connection gave Bangladesh hope for a large score. But things quickly became worse.
In the twelfth over, Jonathan Campbell made a fine catch to dismiss Tanzid, and Soumya was caught leg before wicket for 41 when he misplayed Jongwe’s slower yorker. For the remainder of the inning, the large crowd was left without a chance to applaud despite the strong start provided by the other hitters.
Sikandar Raza was slogged by Towhid Hridoy, the player of the match in the previous two games, into deep square leg, where Bennett made a great grab. In the next over, Bennett then entered the fray with his offspin. Before Najmul Hossain Shanto played all around a tossed-up delivery off the final ball, he managed to get the ball to slip past Shakib’s bat and pad with his first ball.
In the 17th over, Jaker Ali was dismissed by Richard Ngarava, following a misunderstanding between Taskin and Rishad. Taskin tried to leave the crease, but Rishad yelled at him to return, gesturing to the fielder at midwicket. However, it was already too late, and Taskin was unable to make it back to his crease in time. Muzarabani, Ngarava, and Jongwe claimed the final three wickets to fall. Nevertheless, Zimbabwe lost a run-out opportunity in the final over. Mustafizur was well short of the non-striker’s end when Tanvir Islam and Mustafizur, Bangladesh’s last pairing, attempted to get an additional run via an overthrow. To the delight of the full house, Campbell, on the other hand, was unable to parry the ball onto the stumps.
Zimbabwe was again not off to a strong start in the pursuit. Bennett fell in the first over and was unable to repeat his bowling efficacy with the bat. Shakib took the catch at mid-on as Taskin forced him into a pull shot. After moving up to No. 3, Sikandar Raza barely lasted until the fourth over after hitting four boundaries in the first two overs. Taskin got rid of Raza when he was on 17 by hitting a long ball that uprooted his middle stump. After hitting two fours off Shakib in the third over, Tadiwanashe Marumani trailed Raza back to the dugout in the fifth over. When Marumani mishandled a slog sweep effort, Shakib trapped him leg before wicket. Madande was leg before wicket for twelve when he perished in the ninth over, unable to execute his reverse sweep.
In the tenth over, Bangladesh had Zimbabwe under control and then let two opportunities slip away. However, Hridoy eliminated Campbell at position 12, and Jaker ruined Ryan Burl’s skier at position 1. In the 13th over, the two combined to take 20 runs off Tanzim Hasan. Before Burl’s clip carried the ball far into the seats over square leg, Campbell hit a six and a four. However, Mustafizur bowled the 15th over, striking twice, to end their short struggle. Burl’s tenure on 19 ended as Soumya made a superb running catch from long range. It was 94 for 6 when Jongwe sent his second ball to Rishad at point. In the seventeenth over, Shakib dismissed Campbell, and Shanto caught the skier mid-off.
Shakib was hit for four and six by Masakadza in the same over that Campbell was knocked out. However, Tanzim turned things around with six runs in the eighteenth over, and Mustafizur then eliminated Akram in the penultimate over while giving up just seven runs. After making a nice catch to get rid of Akram, Tanzid let Masakadza have an easier opportunity with the first ball of the last over. The following ball was a massive six for Muzarabani, but Shakib delivered a wide one to him as he was getting ahead, and Jaker finished the stumping. The following ball, Ngarava was bowled to calm the home fans.
